Dry running rotary vane vacuum pumps are one of the most widely used industrial vacuum pump technologies found throughout manufacturing and process industries. Commonly used for vacuum holding, lifting, conveying, print finishing and general industrial vacuum duties, these pumps are valued for their reliability, simplicity and low maintenance operation.
VacAir Superstore supply, service and repair dry running rotary vane vacuum pumps from leading manufacturers including Becker, DVP, Elmo Rietschle and other major industrial vacuum pump brands.

Dry running rotary vane vacuum pumps operate using a rotor mounted eccentrically inside a cylindrical housing. The rotor contains slots which hold self-lubricating graphite vanes, often referred to as carbon pump vanes.
As the rotor turns, centrifugal force pushes the carbon vanes outward against the cylinder wall. This creates individual chambers between the vanes. Because the rotor is mounted eccentrically, the size of these chambers changes during rotation, drawing air in through the inlet and exhausting it through the outlet.
The carbon vanes are manufactured from self-lubricating graphite material, meaning the pump operates without oil inside the compression chamber. This is why these units are commonly known as dry running vacuum pumps.
Compared to oil lubricated rotary vane pumps, dry running units are often preferred where cleaner operation, reduced maintenance and simpler installation are important.
Dry running rotary vane pumps are found across a huge range of industrial sectors due to their versatility and relatively simple operation.
Common applications include:
Many dry running pumps are used continuously in demanding industrial environments, particularly where reliability and low operating costs are essential.

Although dry running rotary vane pumps are extremely reliable, they are still wear items and require servicing and maintenance. The most common wear component is the carbon vane itself.
Many vacuum performance issues are caused by simple service items rather than complete pump failure. In many cases, replacing the carbon vanes and filters can restore performance.

A dry running rotary vane vacuum pump is a vacuum pump that uses self-lubricating carbon vanes operating inside an eccentric rotor system to generate vacuum or pressure without oil inside the compression chamber.
Carbon pump vanes are self-lubricating graphite vanes fitted into the rotor of a rotary vane pump. They are wear components and require periodic replacement.
These pumps are widely used in woodworking, printing, packaging, automation, thermoforming, lifting systems and water treatment applications.
Carbon vane life depends on operating conditions, contamination levels and maintenance, but many industrial pumps operate for thousands of hours before vane replacement is required.
Yes. Many industrial dry running rotary vane pumps are designed for continuous operation in production environments.
The compression chamber itself operates dry using self-lubricating carbon vanes. However, some larger units may still contain gearbox or bearing lubrication depending on design.
Yes. VacAir Superstore provide servicing, repairs, vane replacement, workshop overhauls and replacement pumps for many major vacuum pump brands.
